If you’ve picked up my Free eBook on profile optimization for LinkedIn, you know there are a ton of things you can do to up your findability in LinkedIn. The blue box that comes up when first viewing a profile is highlighted for a reason. It’s designed to provide a snapshot of the person you’re looking at. You likely already know how important status updates are to show LIFE and MOTION in your career as an interesting person, and you may have learned the tricks on your Current and Past job titles as well. This post is specific to the website links that LinkedIn allows you to put on your profile.
Optimize Your Website Links
First of all, LinkedIn provides you with 3 links you can place on your profile. They default to…
Company, Personal, Other
Yet you can put into these spaces whatever you want, including…
- Your Company Name to link to your business website
- Your Blog Name to link to your blog
- Your Facebook page
- Your Portfolio of work
- Your resume
- Any bloody page you want to that has a live URL
Many thanks to my friend Jeannette Palladiono on LinkedIn who caught me with the trousers down masquerading as a LinkedIn Expert with an eBook and all, while not even having my own company name pointing to my website. I was using the lame-O “Company” tag that LinkedIn offers. Her blog post on the subject can be found here. I changed it immediately because of how much sense it made. The embarrassing part is, I was already using the technique to link to a video for my LinkedIn Group!
What you might not know without inspection is that LinkedIn gives you a few other options to decorate your websites on the Profile box, including
Blog, RSS Feed, Portfolio
That’s all well and good, but the power option, the one with the stones of granite, is the magic “Other” option. What the heck, I’ll just show you.
